Appearantly, according to my new VW mechanic, it’s difficult to remove the emblem from the trunk because of the fact that it is also a lock. So with that and the idea that I wanted to save money over buying a new one I decided to ‘bling’ it up.

A friend had suggested to me that I put rhinestones on the licence plate holder and that’s what gave me the idea to put them on the emblem.

I headed out to Wal-Mart and bought the following:

That’s craft Goop and Elmer Gemstones. I bought four packages of the gemstones but only used three.

Then all I did was take the gemstones one by one and glue them onto the emblem. All in all it took about two hours total.

In the beginning I started peeling off the metal covering but then decided against finishing that since you can’t see it underneith anyway.

Here’s the results:

That’s the bling process! It was very fun and pretty inexpensive (about $22 total)

VW Beetle Hubcaps or Wheels
Here’s the current look (I know, kinda rough looking!). One hubcap fell off and the other was stolen! So, I’m trying to decide if I save up for rims or just go with more hubcaps for now:

Antenna
Needs a new one, this one came with the car with electrical tape on it.

VW Emblem on Trunk
The car came with this chipped, too.

Gear Shift Boot
Again, came as-is.

Front Grill
I’m not sure when this happened?! But maybe in the winter as I pulled into a curb somewhere. I don’t think it was busted when I bought it.

Airbag Light
Yea this was on when I bought it too. They fixed it and it came back on. They fixed it again but it still came back on.

Driver’s Side Door Peeling
Another little flaw the car came with. Not sure how to fix this but I’ll figure it out!

Starter
I know this needs replacing sometime in the future. The starter is supposedly going according to the VW Mechanic I talked to when I bought the car. That was over a year ago now and he said they can last a long time after the ‘noise’ that is supposed to mean that it needs replacing starts.

Any advice or suggestions for me on where to start or where to buy the parts? I’d love to hear!

I’m meeting with a new VW Mechanic soon as my old one moved, I’ll let you know any updates I do after that.

I just got my oil changed and found out that the recommend oil costs $16 per litre! My mechanic called the volkswagen dealership and found out for next time he can use synthetic oil which is apparently much cheaper.

Bad Beetle owner! I waited longer than I should to get my headlight bulb replaced. All fixed now though.

One of my biggest goals for my car is to learn how to take good care of it with preventative maintenance. I’m working on it. In the past I have not done so well at looking after my vehicles but the bug is different. I just love that car!

My car is a 2001 Beetle so of course I need the new beetle manual. They also have repair manuals at Amazon for the old beetles too:

I think it’s a good idea to have this handy. Even though I do have a Volkswagen repair guy just down the road I’d like to have a much better understanding of what might go wrong. So, I’m going to grab up this book and I’ll come back here and post more of a review on what I’ve learned and of course give you some handy tips as I figure them out.

It’s really funky looking and I love it. Now I do love my hardtop bug but a convertible would be great for the summer season. It wouldn’t be very good for the winters though because it’s cold here in Canada.

The info on the PicApp site says the car was up for sale on auction and is worth about $100,000-$200,000. It’s a 1998 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible:

Isn’t a VW Beetle just the cutest car? I love that it comes with a flower and you can buy all kinds of flowery things for it.

Tomorrow I’ll call the mechanic and have my car brought in. He went away on vacation before I could check on the hub cap replacement so it’s really been a bit too long now going without a hub cap. I’ll get a new one this week either from him or possibly order it off Amazon.

Here’s one I found on Amazon to match my bug, I found out the hub caps on Volkswagons come in a bunch of different styles but this one matches my car which is a 2001:

I could also buy four replica covers for pretty cheap but they’re not as nice:

Over the weekend I did another good clean up on my beetle and cleaned the outside, vacuumed the inside and cleaned the interior and windows.

I just used your regular stuff – dish detergent for the outside (is that bad?), wet clean cloth for the inside and window cleaner for the windows.

Something I noticed on the front of the car was little chips in the paint. I live on a dirt road with a lot of rocks and I wonder if this is going to start the rusting process for the winter.

When I bought my beetle it had/has little to no rust on it at all. A lot of the cars I looked at were pretty rusty so I want to figure out how to prevent that of course.

Here’s an article I found and have permission to reprint on how to prevent rust. I think I will do a rust treatment this year before winter comes. Winter here in Canada means lots of snow and salt on the road which is brutal for our cars.
